NEWS

MARCH 8th 2019

You don’t own me, and I certainly do not own you. We don’t own each other, but we belong to each other.  We all belong. To belong is to be equal. To be equal is to be valued. Value and equality are at the antithesis of exploitation, bias, and injustice. On this day, International Women’s day, Value and Equality scream in the streets, bound together, beckoning us to remember what we’ve been called to as human beings.

Today is the proper time to put the focus on women and acknowledge the imbalance of opportunity, freedom, and fairness. But, rather than focus on a message about what men have done poorly, we’re not going to talk about that at all. This is for our women:

YOU BELONG. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.  YOU ARE POWERFUL.  YOU ARE CREATIVE.  YOU ARE STRONG.  YOU ARE INTELLIGENT.  YOU ARE CHANGING THE WORLD.  THE WORLD NEEDS YOU.  YOUR VOICE IS CRUCIAL.  BE LOUD.  BE FREE.  NOBODY OWNS YOU.  BE WHO YOU ARE AND BE THAT AS LOUD AS YOU CAN BE.  YOU ARE EQUAL.  YOU BELONG.

Today we’re releasing our cover of Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me”-featuring Natalie Schepman (Joseph). If purchased through Bandcamp (click the MERCH tab avove), all proceeds for this track will go to the Women’s S.H.E. Clinic (Safe, Healthy, Empowered) through the non-profit organization Aurora Commons. The S.H.E. clinic is a mobile service that provides quality, trauma-informed and non-judgmental health care for women along Aurora Avenue in Seattle. Many are unhoused, drug dependent, marginalized, and often taught they do not belong.  The clinic is changing the world in the love they are showing, the dignity they are giving, the friendships they are making, the lives they are changing. Everyone is equal, and everyone belongs. This song is for the S.H.E Clinic. This song is for those women.  This song is for all women.  This song is for you.

All our love to you all on this day. - Jessica & Deep Sea Diver
